As if Electronic Arts' announcement earlier this week that they'd be cutting 1,500 jobs wasn't proof enough, here's a handy visual reference for just how not recession-proof the videogames industry has turned out to be.
The chart above comes by way of Business Insider, and as you can see, it tracks the total videogame sales from September 2007 through September 2009. The first massive nose-dive following December 07 -- nearly a full year before the economic crisis really took place in September 08 -- could probably be attributed to a natural decline of sales post-holiday season.
But as you can plainly see, the heights of September 07 have yet to be seen again. And after a slight bump upward even during the 08 holiday season, overall sales year-to-year are still significantly down, including a 13 percent drop in October sales compared to last year, Business Insider reports.
